Demon Music Group, out 30 September

When the TARDIS lands in the Celestial Toyroom, its occupants meet a new and deadly opponent.

Demon’s next Classic Doctor Who vinyl release is 1966 William Hartnell adventure The Celestial Toymaker. Of the original four episodes, only the final one exists on film, though there is audio for all.

Presented across two 140g ‘King & Queen’ coloured LPs (red and blue), each side represents a 25-minute episode of Brian Hayles’ fantasy. It’s a fun story, helped by a game Michael Gough as the eponymous mischief maker. Peter Purves (Steven) provides linking narration for the story, which was previously released as a CD set by BBC Worldwide in 2005.

As we’ve come to expect from Demon Records, the discs are presented in a fully illustrated gatefold sleeve showing cast and credits, and inner bags featuring complete episode billings.

Verdict: ‘We shall play endless games together, your brain against mine.’ Another beautifully designed collector’s set to join the growing Doctor Who vinyl catalogue. 8/10
