A demon claims to have murdered missing children, putting Kristen in a difficult position as Leland finds a new target…

After an episode that had me wondering if the show was about to head off into more fantastical realms, things are more on track this time around, with a case that troubles all of the team for different reasons. There seems to be an acceptance now by Kristen of the existence of demons – we’re in very definite Exorcist territory with the portrayal of the possessed woman, although there’s no confirmation as to whether she’s using holy items to masturbate with – even if at the end there’s discussion of a medical condition.

For all three, the secondary plot is also affecting, as the Vatican send three investigators (the Church’s equivalent of Raiders of the Lost Ark’s Top Men – although it would explain a lot if the Top Men really were like this!) to look into the team’s dealings with the prophet Grace. This plotline moves along nicely, linking to Leland’s gifts to Kristen’s daughters (enabling David to learn about what’s been going on), and, more surprisingly, to David’s father.

And as to Leland himself – he’s having a week off from seducing Sheryl, and has set his sights on an Angry Young Man, encouraging his rabidly misogynistic thoughts. The moment where Sebastian delivers a ‘gift’ to the woman who turned him down is nasty (and left to our imagination, luckily) – and it’s worth noting in passing that this episode was written by Patricia Ione Lloyd.

Verdict: Back on track with another solid episode moving things along well. 8/10
