Oliver and Felicity have their wedding reception! Everything’s fine! Curtis gets drunk! Rene is very sweet! Dinah meets a secret boyfriend!

Oh and someone on the team is testifying that Ollie is Green Arrow…

The quality of the mid-season finales in the Arrowverse has been so high that eventually one had to give. Unfortunately, it’s Arrow.

There are two episodes here and the first is great. That sees this group of desperately broken, damaged people actually have some fun for once. The reception is a lovely sequence that sets up what follows but also lets these characters off the hook for once. The scene between Ollie and Quentin in particular is a show highlight and everyone gets some nice little moments.

The episode that follows works much less well. There’s a lovely Mission: Impossible riff as the team are blackmailed into stealing a McGuffin for Cayden James that’s fun but as the episode continues the air keeps getting let out of it.

That’s entirely down to the surveillance the veteran members of Team Arrow carry out on the newbies. They, rightly, feel violated. Olly, Felicity and Digg (who at least looks uncomfortable) stand their ground. Grumpiness ensues and in the episode’s worst twist, the mole is kicked off the team, brought back, then kicked off again.

Verdict: Arrow loves sending its characters to their lowest points but this is just profoundly annoying. Oliver basically tantrums his way through the third act and that, coupled with Felicity’s weird moral blindness and a cack-handed plot twist mean the episode lands badly. It’s a shame because the final reveal especially is fun, but this is a show with a lot of work to do when it comes back, unlike its stable mates. 5/10
