Sara takes some time…off. Rip and Wally bond. Everyone else is a pirate now!

This week there’s: a date, a sword fight, Mick being emotionally mature and brilliant, the Waveider almost being brought down by cannons, a sword fight on the Waverider, Ray’s crisis of ethics and a new Totem.

Phew!

Legends continues its madcap open-armed sprint towards everything that looks fun and like last week does so by focusing on a specific character. Amaya, consumed with guilt over her family and her feelings for Nate, is given a shot of confidence and a pirate alter ego when the team discover Edward Teach has the Earth Totem. Or rather, had the Earth Totem…

Swashbuckling and this show are a natural fit and the episode does not disappoint. From Ray and Nate’s competing discoveries to the effortless way the team build Amaya’s backstory to the kisses that close the episode there’s something for everyone. It’s intensely fun, completely over the top and knows it. I especially liked Damien being complimented on how good he looks in naval gear and Wally and Rip’s karaoke for the ages.

In fact, Wally is the other unsung hero of this episode. Just as Amaya discovers how much fun she can have, his gently, mildly sad realizations about why had to leave Team Flash hit home surprisingly hard. Wally’s not a genius like everyone else. He’s a good hearted, brave young man who wants to do the right thing and isn’t sure what that is. Whether Rip is the correct guide for him… well… that remains to be seen but they’re certainly off to a good start.

Verdict: Romantic, hilarious, ludicrous and kind-hearted (RAY! NOOOOO!) this is the Legends at its best. 10/10
