A virus breaks out on an express train to Busan, South Korea.

While we wait for the American remake to be released – The Last Train to New York – now is a good time to revisit Yeon Sang-ho’s 2016 zombie adventure movie, now boasting a splendid 4K transfer.

As premises go, this is a simple, high concept one – zombies on a train. A young father is taking his daughter home to her mother, a simple train journey that should only take an hour. However, an unidentified virus has swept the country, and the Korean government declared martial law.

The train journey becomes one of survival, with different factions within the carriages doing what they can to hold back the zombie hordes. The zombies are vicious, snarling and quick, their fatal bites turning victims into their kind within minutes. The action pieces are well-mounted, the biggest monsters are typically not the zombies, and it just flies by. The disc contains a trailer and a 17-minute ‘making of’ featurette.

Verdict: Visceral and exciting, this sharp zombie pic looks terrific with its 4K makeover. 9/10
