The campers come face to face with Dr Wu’s abandoned experiment…

Although the first half of this episode is a little irritating – Kenji reverting to his old ways, and Ben not wanting to be part of the group – it’s more than made up for by the attack on the camp by the Scorpius rex which sees all of the group having to pull together, even if most of them have finally cottoned on to the fact that they’re not best buddies, but are simply thrown together by circumstance. Darius clicks why his dinosaur knowledge isn’t up to speed once Brooklynn and Sammy tell him what they’ve found – and after they survive yet another dinosaur stampede.

Apparently the executive producers thought the Scorpius rex design was too ugly, but the team successfully argued that that was the point of it, and it’s very different from either the T rex or the Indominus rex that the visitors to Jurassic World, old and young, have encountered previously. There’s one shot during the storm as it comes round a tree towards an unsuspecting Darius that makes you query the PG rating…

We’re now halfway through the season, and things have definitely taken a turn for the worse. Will the producers have the courage of their convictions this time around and let someone die?

Verdict: A strong second half compensates for some weaknesses earlier. 7/10
