Cadaverous host The Creep introduces a tale of an extreme form of weight loss and a legendary beast that resides in the bottom of a lake.

Skincrawlers presents us with Skin Deep by Sloane, a new treatment to help you achieve the perfect body that you deserve. Dr Herbert Sloane has discovered a new form of Lee g from the Brazilian rainforests that instead of drinking blood liquefies human day. It’s a ‘get thin quick’ scheme which Henry Quayle (Dana Gould) initially resists, but when he sees the miraculous results in his friend Kelly he agrees to have the treatment administered live on TV.

Unfortunately a solar eclipse does something to the fatsuckers and they start bursting out of eyeballs, exploding out of heads and being vomited up. The effects are spectacularly gross, director Roxanne Benjamin delivering Paul Dini and Stephen Langford’s script with lashings of gore.

By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain takes us to young Rose, growing up with an abusive stepfather (Chet) and still trying to make sense of the loss of her father to a beast in a nearby lake. Starring Sydney Wease as Rose, and based on a short story by Joe Hill (teleplay by Jason Ciaramella), this is directed by special effects maestro Tom Savini with a subtler touch to what we’re used to. The practical effect of Champ the dinosaur is effective, and the resolution satisfying.

Verdict: These six weeks have gone too quickly, delivering a dozen tales of horror, revenge and retribution. With a second season confirmed, we didn’t look forward to more grisly fun in the future.8/10
