 ‘’Til Death do us Part’

That vow is a beautiful one – it means nothing in this world will separate us, until one of us is taken from it. It comes with the reassurance that we will grow old together, and live the twilight years of our lives together until the end – and this happens so often: just look at our late Queen, she didn’t even manage 18 months without her husband of 74 years by her side. After 30 years of marriage, though, what would it mean if a couple found out that one of them was destined to live another lifetime without the other?

In exploring the effect of ELS on family dynamics, this episode will undoubtedly call mind the sometimes Machiavellian machinations of politics between the different branches of a family tree. Although I would challenge you not to have your heartstrings pulled at the same time as your heckles will rise at the jealousy and judgment that is poured on Elia as she and Mark take a new step in their long, loving life together.

There are so many clever little touches as Saul tells his parents’ story. Being myself born of parents who were considered rather old to have a child when I came along, his testimony rings true and is incredibly touching. The episode packs in so much, including a twist… that takes nothing from the obviously beloved heart of the story.

The love of good parents lives well beyond their earthly lives – there’s such hope in a legacy like that, no matter what stage of life we’re in.

Verdict: And the greatest of these is love: as Saul reflects in this poignant episode. 9/10
