The vampires ponder what to do after Guillermo kills 47 of their kind to save them from execution. A forbidden artifact is used to help Nandor court a health club employee.

The TV spin-off of Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s 2014 mockumentary of the same name about vampire housemates, returns with a  double-bill of hilarious episodes. This show is such a joy, the characters so well-established and beautifully played that it feels like you’re catching up with some dearly missed (departed?) old friends, which they are. You could put them in any situation and comedy hold would follow, but first there’s the matter of Guillermo, Nandor’s familiar, who revealed himself at the end of season 3 to be a vampire killer.

What’s to be done with Guillermo? He’s kept in a cell and treated like Hannibal Lecter, while secretly escaping at night to do the housework and get some food. The vampires of the house have been promoted to being members of the Vampiric Council (the others were killed by Guillermo), which immediately creates tension because who will be the master?

In the second episode, the vampires get to enter the council chamber and to sample its chamber of curiosities, containing priceless and powerful artefacts like Van Helsing’s dick and ancient pornographic text the Knobnomicon. But it’s the Cloak of Duplication that catches Nandor’s eye, as it allows its wearer to take on the shape of another. He asks Lazlo to mimic him and seduce the girl he has taken to at the local gym. But Lazlo delegates this important task to Colin Robinson, who understandably messes things up.

Verdict: Welcome back, you inept, narcissistic bloodsuckers. You’re as useless as ever, and it’s a delight to have you back on our screens. 9/10
