Sergeant Maaka assists Officers Minogue and O’Leary as they investigate an abandoned house haunted by a group of ghosts straight out of the 1970s, and some of them love to party.

The supernatural mockumentary hits its stride this week when the oblivious cops are called out to a disturbance. We’re told that 50% of their callouts are run-ins or disturbances, and when Minogue and O’Leary crash a party they’re missing the reality that this is a haunted house rather than what they believe – a 70s-themed party.

A lot of the fun comes from the sight gags (a pair of underpants with ‘The Truth is in Here’ written on them) to throwaway lines like O’Leary’s response to being told someone is a medium: ‘I’m a large’. It’s great to see Sargent Maaku on the case, not least because he can recognise the supernatural, but the resolution is again down to providence rather intellect or police work.

Verdict: Another horror sub-genre gets the Wellington Paranormal treatment, and it’s a whole bunch of fun. 8/10
