Titan Comics, out now

Los Angeles 2009 and the Nexus 5’s host consciousness, Nia Moreaux, realises what she must do to elude Ilora Stahl.

The Blade Runner prequel takes another step back in time, this time to 2008 where we get vital background on Nia Moreaux’s past, teaching humanity to ‘skinjobs’ as part of the Excel Program. Discovering the catalyst to get becoming the subject of transference, we return to 2009 and continue the main story.

While a substantial flashback at this stage in the story might unnecessarily slow things down, this time it’s a welcome extrapolation of the themes built up in the previous nine issues, leaving us with just two more to complete the story.

Verdict: The Blade Runner prequel comes into its own, setting up the pieces for a highly anticipated finale. 8/10
