Trevante’s plane lands, though not where he expected. Caspar and Jamilia make it to Caspar’s home, but their journey is just beginning. Mitsuki fights for what she believes in.

So finally, after seven prior episodes of completely disparate main characters, we may be starting to see some of this come together. Trevante’s landed, but this ain’t Kansas, Toto – this is London. And who else is in London? Only gotta be a matter of time, right?

Speaking of people in London, Caspar and Jamilia finally find their way to Caspar’s flat, and what they find there is as tragic as it is grimly predictable. But it sets Caspar on a new path. Now, he’s determined to use his mysterious connection to whatever it is that’s invading the planet to fight back in a real and direct way.

The odd thing is, though these two characters (Trevante and Caspar) seem on the surface to be the least likely to be connected, it actually makes a lot of sense. We get a bit more fill in here about what exactly the big gap between Trevante and his wife that we got hints of before is about. We also know that Trevante is clearly troubled, even suffering from some form of mental health issues, before the invasion kicked off. This veteran soldier and this young boy from the wrong side of the tracks may have an awful lot more in common than first appears to be the case.

Over in the US, Aneesha and family are now at the government facility on the basis of Aneesha’s supposed status as a doctor. And the doctor she worked alongside at the triage station before very obviously has more than a professional interest in her. Could it be time for Manny to start getting absolutely unreasonably jealous? No time to really find out, as Luke wanders off with a new friend and gets into the sort of bother that might have seen him told off in different circumstances, but here may hold the key to salvation.

And in Japan, Mitsuki barters her way out of a tight spot to get back on the comms trying to reach out to the aliens. But the way in which she chooses to approach it is an unconventional one at best.

Finally, slowly, the show seems to be dragging at least part of itself towards some sort of conclusion. What that might be remains unclear – here we are at the end of episode 8 of 10 and so far there’s no clear idea of what the intent of the invaders might be. Here’s hoping things speed up a little as we head to the finale.

Verdict: Compelling in as much as I feel invested in the personal struggles of the characters, if not the intent of the aliens. 7/10
