Robert Vaughn, forever known as the original Man From UNCLE Napoleon Solo, has died aged 83 after a brief battle with leukemia.

Vaughn had a long and distinguished acting career besides his role in the 1960s spy series, appearing in The Ten Commandments, The Magnificent Seven- and even Coronation Street.

Among his genre credits was The Protectors, one of Gerry Anderson’s live action forays, and he starred on the last season of The A-Team. He was the villain in Superman III, and reprised his Magnificent Seven role to all intents and purposes in Battle Beyond the Stars.

His last regular role was as Albert Stroller on Hustle.
