AmazonGuillermo del Toro, Travis Beacham and Star Trek veteran Rene Echevarria are behind one of the two new SF pilots that Amazon has ordered, according to Deadline.

Carnival Row is set in the future in a city called the Burgue, which looks a lot like 18th Century London. It is inhabited by humans and other creatures, and a serial killer is on the loose. The pilot is written by Echevarria based on the feature script that Beacham had been trying to sell for over a decade.

The other show, Strange New Things, is based on the novel by Michael Faber, described as “Heart of Darkness in space”. The story centres on Peter Leigh, an English pastor who embarks on the journey of a lifetime into deep space that takes him light years away from his beloved wife, Bea. Matt Charman wrote the script with Kevin MacDonald lined up to direct.
