Other Mommy released its first trailer on the front of The Odyssey, which seems to be a pretty ringing endorsement of the movie from the studio. Alasdair’s got the rundown on the most terrifying two minutes you’ll see this week.

0.10 – ‘He fell asleep in the office. I’ll go get him.’
‘Let him sleep.’

Is that a clue? Does she manifest from the dad’s psyche not the kids?

0.20 – ‘What kind of mother would I be?’

With what we’re about to see, that’s a leading question and also maybe a genuine enquiry. A monster learning to be what it needs to be.

0.47 – ‘Do you remember where you before that?’

And the music stops. Such a simple technique but even rewatching this here it made me sit up.

0.57 – ‘Can I go into your heart?’

That evokes vampires being invited in, and suggests, again, the kid is the destination not the origin for whatever this is. Also, my God Jessica Chastain is good at this. The stillness, the frozen, just too wide smile. Incredible.

1.01 – ‘You said you wouldn’t leave my room.’

The kid’s mounting realisation is horrifying. And also, this seems to confirm whatever she is, she’s bonded to the kid.

1.17 – OH GOD

Everything about this jump scare! Especially that it’s not actually a jump scare! Horrifying and so perfectly done! Get it away from me!

1.36 – Yellow fingers

This may just be the light but right before this shot there’s an image of what may be the Other Mommy, in a yellow dress, standing still watching someone leave. These fingers look the same shadow of yellow.

2.08 – Ball pit in the car! BALL PIT IN THE CAR!

Oh God that’s horrifying, and suggests what she is, the Other Mommy can alter reality.
