If you have Netflix, treat yourself and go watch the two seasons of American Vandal, suggests Alasdair Stuart. It’s a note perfect parody of true crime podcasts, on the most trivial field possible, and it’s one of those shows that’s hilarious because it’s played so straight.

A big part of that is Jimmy Tatro as the ‘criminal’ at the core of the story. Tatro is an incredible comedian, excelling at playing deadly serious in the most absurd manner possible and balancing sincerity with an enormous willingness to look incredibly stupid. He’s great, and any project with Tatro in it has my attention (except Scream 7, sorry Jim) which is why I was so glad to see him show up in deeply weird time travel gangster movie Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice recently.

Now, his finest hour is upon us. Tatro is in talks to play Gorilla Grodd in upcoming Jimmy Olsen spin-off series, DC Crime.

Grodd is a hyper intelligent telepathic ape who seeks to rule the world. He’s a Flash villain. He’s very goofy. He doesn’t know. He is a perfect fit for Tatro who, if he signs on, will play against Skyler Gisondo returning from 2025’s Superman as Jimmy Olsen.

Better still? The show is from Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the creators of American Vandal!  It’s not greenlit yet, but it seems very likely to be, and I am thrilled at the thought of this cast and these writers getting up to this level of monkey business.
