Alien: Earth’s first season was, for me, a maddening combination of great ideas, excellent cast and some truly mystifying choices, says Alasdair Stuart. The second season is gearing up now and just added four names, all of which are enormously fun.

Peter Dinklage is best known for Game of Thrones of course, but he’s dealt with aliens before too. He was part of Threshold, a much-missed X-Files-alike following a crisis intervention team realising that aliens are already here in the oddest of ways. It’s a great show, with enormous potential, that committed the crime of being about five years early. He’s great in Threshold, and honestly everything, and it’s nice to see him on a run at the moment.

He’s joined by his old Game of Thrones partner Jerome Flynn, who has cornered the market in genial Northern badass, as well as Sam Spruell. Spruell is a very intense performer, best known recently for his complex work as Maekar Targaryen in Knight of the Seven Kingdoms but also excellent in Small Axe, Luther and Fargo among others.

Finally, Tracey Ullman has signed up. Ullman is an absolute legend, a seven-time Emmy winner and UK comedy royalty. She’s a very odd, very interesting get and I’m fascinated to see what these four bring to the show.

Alien: Earth season 2 is in preproduction now and Season 1 is on Disney+ and Hulu
