In the wake of Backrooms, stories have been circulating about studios struggling to find their own personal Weird Internet Thing. Brilliantly, one of Alasdair Stuart’s favourites appears to have just been picked up by some of the best possible people to do it.

Trevor Henderson is a superb creature designer who has created some of the most memorable horror creatures of recent years. Siren Head is a colossal semi-mechanical creature that looks like offal accreted around an ambulatory telephone pole. Siren Head is one of the first new American monsters and the combination of its size, nightmarish appearance and the wide-open vistas that Henderson likes to paint it stalking mean it looks like very little else.

Zach Cregger, who broke through massively with Weapons and is about to release his Resident Evil movie, has teamed up with Brian Duffield, whose adaptation of Daniel Kraus’ astonishing Whalefall releases later this year. Duffield is attached to direct with the pair co-writing the script and Cregger producing.

This one should be big, nasty fun. Looking forward to seeing what they do with it.
