We’re still waiting on whether Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will get a third season but its spin-off is firing up, reports Alasdair Stuart.

Pilo Asbaek (excellent as The Mule in the most recent series of Foundation among many other things) and Millie Brady (Apple TV’s Surface) have just joined the cast and JD Dillard, best known for The Outsider and The Twilight Zone, will direct the pilot.

The spinoff itself ‘“follows the story of Colonel Lee Shaw, an American operative who in 1984 went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.”

Which confirms Wyatt Russell’s return as the younger version of Lee and puts the show in some interesting similar territory to For All Mankind spinoff Star City. Most interesting of all is the announcement that not only is Joby Harrold (Obi-Wan Kenobi) the showrunner but he’s overseeing ‘multiple’ new TV series for the Monsterverse. If one of those turns out to be the long suspected (by me) Dan Stevens fronted Trapper-Titan Vet! show then I will be so, so happy. Especially if it’s called All Creatures GREAT and Small.
