After a decade away – bar a few readings – Alexander Vlahos’ Dorian Gray is back at Big Finish, in a new story by Scott Handcock.
The Confessions of Dorian Gray: A Night at the Theatre is a brand-new feature-length audio adventure, due for release in October 2026.
To mark ten years since the original series ended, the special adventure revisits Dorian’s life in the Roaring Twenties. A Night at the Theatre is a two-hour murder mystery tale and the longest instalment of The Confessions of Dorian Gray to date.
When Dorian discovers a theatre company staging a play about him, he can’t resist getting involved but soon becomes embroiled in the hunt for a murderer. This full-cast story has guest stars including Greg Austin (Hunters, Class), Silas Carson (Star Wars, Doctor Who) and Bonnie Langford (Doctor Who, EastEnders).
London, 1925. On a wet October night, Dorian Gray spots a theatrical production of Oscar Wilde’s novel being staged at the Montague Theatre. Escaping the rain, he buys a ticket… but quickly becomes embroiled in a deadly mystery when one of the cast is killed after that evening’s curtain call.
When all his suspects are already used to being someone they’re not, can Dorian see through their secrets? Or will the murder of Dorian Gray go unsolved…?
Scott Handcock, the story’s writer, director and producer, said: “Ten years ago, Alexander Vlahos and I wrapped up The Confessions of Dorian Gray after five successful series. We’ve flirted with a few readings since then, but now we’re back with our first full cast audio drama since 2016… and it’s our longest Confession yet!
“It’s a story we never expected to tell but, when Jason Haigh-Ellery approached us with the prospect of returning to Dorian’s world, it quickly became clear there were still stories left to be told. We’re all a little older, the world has changed, but Dorian Gray remains just as he always was – and this time he’s investigating a theatrical murder in 1920s London, with a stellar cast along for the ride.”
Handcock exclusively told Sci-Fi Bulletin, “It’s been a blast stepping back into Dorian’s world and working with Alex again. I think we were both quite trepidatious about the prospect initially, but once we started – either writing or working in studio – it felt instantly like coming home and that shorthand kicked in again. I know we’d both love to do more, but that’s down to Big Finish!”
