Widow’s Bay, on Apple TV, is yet another in the channel’s stream of genre delights, notes Alasdair Stuart.

I’m not just saying that because I grew up on a very small island with some unusual practices either, the show is both horrific and very funny. Matthew Rhys as the least lucky mayor since Amity Bay’s is wonderful and the way the first season expands to explore the lives of the other residents plays like classic TV show Northern Exposure just with a much higher body count.

MUCH

HIGHER

Speaking of that body count, and in particular the show’s fantastic flashback episode ‘Our History’, showrunner Katie Dippold said:

“I think it’d be fun to do more flashbacks,” she told Collider. And she’s thinking even bigger than just another season of Widow’s Bay in that regard. “What I think could be very fun about this show and that I always had in mind was, if you build this world and people like being in this world, then aside from this story, there could be future miniseries. What happened at the inn over that New Year’s night could be a standalone six-episode season. I think there is all sorts of stuff you can do, as long as this world is established. I think there’s a lot of fun to be had.”

Do it, Apple! Do it, and do the Slow Horses novellas too! Bring back weird done in one miniseries that aren’t Netflix shows that just get cancelled! You know it makes sense!

Widow’s Bay is on Apple TV now and is a blast
