Anthony Stewart Head, best known for playing Rupert Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died aged 72.
His daughters told BBC News that he “passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family.”
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father,” they said. “It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many.”
Head had a long and varied career, with his genre contributions including as King Uther Pendragon on Merlin, and as the headmaster in Doctor Who’s School Reunion opposite David Tennant.
SFB’s Paul Simpson had the pleasure of interviewing Head on multiple occasions, both on the Buffy and Merlin sets, and subsequently; he was a true gentleman.
