With Aaron Pierre already confirmed as joining Man of Tomorrow as his Lanterns character, John Stewart, the Superman sequel’s roster  has just expanded again. But Alasdair Stuart is not quite sure with who…

The Hollywood Report announced that: “James Gunn has found the final piece of his Man of Tomorrow casting puzzle. After several rounds of screen tests, Adria Arjona has been chosen for the mystery role in DC Studios’ sequel to Superman. It was previously reported that the character was comic anti-heroine Maxima, but it’s unknown if that is correct.”

Arjona’s great, and worked with Gunn before on the underrated office horror The Belko Experiment. The current theory is she’s playing Maxima, an alien Queen with powers equal to Superman who views him as her only logical mate. Played right that has a ton of comedic potential and she’s the sort of character Gunn would excel at bringing into play. But there is another character in the mix that Arjona would also be a good fit for – Wonder Woman. Given the number of heroes already in Man of Tomorrow it might not be the best place to introduce Gunn’s take on her, but she’s one of DC’s big three characters and it makes sense to bring her in. Plus, the ambiguity over just who Arjona has been cast as does seem to point to something being up…

Arjona’s got a ton of genre cred to her name, including appearances in Pacific Rim Uprising, Person of Interest, True Detective, The Book of Boba Fett, surprisingly fun Ryan Reynolds explosionfest 6 Underground, the exceptionally nasty Blink Twice and her pivotal role in Andor. That being said, if I’d recommend one movie of hers for you to check out it would be Hit Man. Arguably Richard Linklater’s best, certainly the best work pathologically likable Glen Powell has done to date and she’s his absolute equal. It’s on Netflix now.

Man of Tomorrow should have just about started filming as you read this.
