Irwin Allen’s The Time Tunnel reopens this month at Big Finish with three new stories.
In 1979, 20 years after it was set up, Project Tic-Toc was shut down by the American authorities. All hope of retrieving scientists Tony Newman and Doug Phillips, who were lost in the Time Tunnel during 1968, has been abandoned.
But in 2025, four people are brought together by a need to reopen the Arizona base and reactivate the Time Tunnel in secret. From there they must try to find Doug or Tony, because something they have done in the past has changed the present. And not changed it for the better… the world is now under the power of Rakervia…
Irwin Allen’s The Time Tunnel stars Seán Carlsen (Gallifrey) as British naval officer Captain Lewis Haworth, Safiyya Ingar (The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles) as young hacker MB, Jay Reum as dark web operative Cole Smith, and Rachel Handshaw as marine biologist Clare MacGregor.
In their first three adventures, these characters will have to put aside their differences as they seek out time travellers from the 1960s, meet Amy Johnson in World War 2, and end up stuck on opposing sides of the English Civil War.
The Shudder – November 14, 2025 by Gary Russell
The team come together and send Lewis Haworth and MB back into the past to try and find Tony Newman and Doug Phillips… but they have opponents whose existence they are completely unaware of…
Too Close to the Sun – January 5, 1941 by Marc Platt
England. World War 2. It’s January 5th 1941. A momentous day for air pioneer Amy Johnson. But this is the day she disappears…
The World, The Flesh and the Devil – 24th December 1645 by Martin Day
MB and Lewis find themselves in the grim heart of the English Civil War – and on opposing sides. The battle of Naseby is over – Cromwell’s New Model Army has defeated the Royalist forces commanded by Charles I – but everything is in tumult, the future uncertain.
The set will guest star Flavie Ravenhill as Elenya Morozova, Nicholas McArdle as Doctor Muir, and Helen Bang as pioneering aviator Amy Johnson. The cast also includes Vitas Varnas, Edwin Flay, Glen McCready, Holly Ashman, Peter Rae, and Fiona McClure.
Producer Dominic Martin said: “The scripts are just sublime, we have these wonderful characters thrust into situations and times that are certainly intense for them – but a joy for us to listen to!
“Our heroes try to blend into history on their quest to find Tony Newman and Doug Phillips, but can they truly succeed as they cross paths with the doomed pilot Amy Johnson and the armies at the heart of the English Civil War? It’s such an exciting set of stories, with that underlying tension as it genuinely feels like every action our team makes could have tiny or devastating consequences – and you just don’t know what!”
A special panel, Big Finish: Entering The Time Tunnel will take place at 4pm PST on Saturday 15 February at the Gallifrey One convention in Los Angeles, featuring Seán Carlsen, Safiyya Ingar, Gary Russell, Jason Haigh-Ellery and Robert Napton (of Legendary Productions).
