The Director’s Edition of Star Trek: The Motion Picture is coming exclusively to Paramount+.
The restoration is being undertaken by David C. Fein, Mike Matessino, and Daren R. Dochterman, all of whom worked previously with director Robert Wise on the new cut of the film which sought to deal with some of the pacing issues and others in the first of the long running film series.
The video below shows a brief snippet of the before and after on the effects work.
Other movies from the series have just been upgraded to 4K for release.
