Yaphet Kotto, who faced Roger Moore’s James Bond in Live and Let Die and played engineer Parker in Ridley Scott’s Alien, has died aged 81.
His wife posted the news on Facebook: “I’m saddened and still in shocked of the passing of my husband Yaphet of 24 years,”
Renowned outside the genre for his work on Homicide: Life on the Streets, Kotto also appeared in The Running Man and Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. He was offered the roles of both Lando Calrissian for The Empire Strikes Back, and Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation, but turned them down.

My neighbor is Gus Ruthvisch who played Buzzsaw in “The Running Man”. He talks about a good time they had on set together. Sad to learn of his passing.
