Sci-Fi Bulletin: Exploring the Universes of SF, Fantasy, Horror and Spy-fi!

Gore Verbinski will direct Dennis Kelly’s adaptation of George R R Martin’s Sandkings for Netflix.

Collider reported that Verbinski described the film as being based on “this brilliant little twisted short story that I love”, and that Kelly, who wrote the original UK version of Utopia, is on board as writer.

The story is a Hugo and Nebula award winner, and first appeared in Omni magazine, and follows the trials and tribulations of Simon Kress, who purchases a terrarium filled with four different species. It was previously adapted by Melinda M Snodgrass for The Outer Limits.
