Stephen Moore, best known to genre fans as the voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy radio and TV series, has died, aged 81.

Moore had a very varied career, working on stage with the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. He took on the role of Marvin for the original radio series of Hitchhiker’s, and continued to reprise the role until 2004, as well as playing multiple other roles in the series. Other radio work included playing Professor Calculus in the Tintin adaptations.

His TV work included The New Avengers and the Silurian Eldane in the Doctor Who story The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood with Matt Smith’s Doctor.
