UK Star Trek fans who didn’t get a chance to see the iconic Star Trek artwork exhibition, 50 Artists 50 Years, at the Destination Europe show in early October will get another chance over the next two weeks.
In celebration of Star Trek’s 50th anniversary, a one-of-a-kind art exhibit Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years. will be featured as part of Star Trek: The Exhibition on Blackpool’s famed Promenade from 14 to 30 October. Curated by CBS Consumer Products, Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years. features Star Trek-inspired works created by 50 different artists from all around the world, including a piece from renowned actor and photographer Leonard Nimoy, who portrayed Spock in Star Trek: The Original Series.
50 Artists. 50 Years. features original 2D and 3D artwork by 50 artists from 10 countries. Each artist selected their own medium to express their love of the franchise and the inspiration they gained from it. The exhibit, which originally premiered at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2016, includes illustrations, photographs, sculptures, paintings, graphics and more. Some of the artists featured in the collection include digital artists Tom Whalen, Joshua Budich and Rocco Malatesta, sculptor Calvin Ma, and actor and photographer Leonard Nimoy. Nimoy’s piece is an eerie depiction of the Vulcan salute in multi-colour that rings particularly poignant given his recent passing last year.
Star Trek: The Exhibition opened on the famous Golden Mile in June and will now book through until 16 April 2017. The exhibition takes audiences on a journey through the 50-year history of the franchise, with original props, costumes and scripts that have never previously been seen in Europe – all from private a collection, as well as a recreation of the iconic bridge from Star Trek: The Original Series. The exhibition truly comes alive with an exciting new Augmented Reality app that allows visitors to be ‘beamed up’ on the Transporter. The opening was followed by a week-long film festival at the Winter Gardens which showcased all 13 films in the franchise, including latest blockbuster, Star Trek Beyond. This year’s Blackpool Illuminations showcased a new light feature celebrating Star Trek and the franchise’s most-loved characters.
Promoter Paul Gregg said: “We are delighted to be able to offer visitors to Star Trek: The Exhibition the opportunity to see Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years. at no extra charge to their exhibition ticket for a fortnight this October.
