According to reports at Variety, Will Poulter has been cast as Pennywise the Clown in the new two-movie adaptation of Stephen King’s blockbuster, IT, about an evil that affects a small American town.
The 22 year old star of We’re the Millers is younger than most of the actors under consideration for the role (and than Tim Curry who played him in the original TV movie) but the movies’ director, True Detective helmer Cary Fukunaga, was apparently “blown away” by Poulter’s audition. The site suggests that the two movies will be split with the first focusing on a group of youngsters’ battle with Pennywise, and then the second featuring the return engagement once they have grown up. Poulter’s Pennywise would be the link between the two.
Fukunaga co-wrote the screenplays with Chase Palmer; production is expected to start this summer.
