Prolific British character actor Bernard Kay has died, aged 86.
Initially a reporter, Kay turned to acting after the Second World War, and appeared in many genre productions. He was seen alongside the first three Doctors, in The Dalek Invasion of Earth and The Crusade with William Hartnell, The Faceless Ones with Patrick Troughton, and Colony in Space with Jon Pertwee. He also guest starred in the 2006 Big Finish audio Night Thoughts. based on an unproduced script for Doctor Who’s 27th season with Sylvester McCoy. He is also well known to Narnia fans as the original TV Aslan, from the 1967 TV adaptation.
Kay’s other genre work included the 1967 film They Came From Beyond Space, 1977’s Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, and the 1988 alternate history series A Very British Coup. He played Richard Naismith in Russell T Davies’ series Century Falls in 1993, after earlier guest starring in various SF series including The Champions, Adam Adamant Lives!, Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), Survivors and Space: 1999.
