At the TV Choice Awards held on September 9th at the Dorchester Hotel in London, Doctor Who was honoured in two categories.
The show won both the Best Drama Award, and the Outstanding Contribution to Television at the 17th Awards, presented this year in association with Daz. The awards are voted for by members of the public via the magazine’s website.
Because filming began on September 8th on the Doctor Who Christmas Special, Matt Smith was unable to attend the ceremony, but sent a video message from Wales thanking the fans. Smith didn’t win Best Actor – that award went to his predecessor David Tennant for Broadchurch.
Head writer Steven Moffat, Tennant and classic Doctor Peter Davison were on hand to receive the Outstanding Contribution award in recognition of the show’s 50 years on air.
