TBs 121An annoying explorer and his biographer need rescuing from within Halley’s Comet…

Jack Whitehall gives a spot-on vocal performance as the exceptionally irritating and self-absorbed explorer at the heart of this tale, Francois Lemaire, which sees Scott and Alan take Thunderbird 3 (and its pod) through an asteroid field – with a nicely done reference to gaming a moment or two after the thought strikes the viewer that that’s what is going on.

We get to see some new capabilities for TB3 which make for a neat visual (as seen in the accompanying picture to this review), but which I do wonder about in terms of where the pilot sits. The logic of there being a huge screw within the craft that might only get occasionally used seems a bit lacking… (although I’m happy to be corrected by someone who has access to the cutaways of the new craft!)

Rasmus Hardiker is on double duty for the voices in this, playing both Scott and Alan, but the whole voice crew are now so slick with their deliveries that I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the scenes were done in one take with the actor simply switching voices.

It’s quite a simple linear episode but there’s nothing wrong with the occasional “straightforward” rescue!

Verdict: A solid run of the mill episode. 7/10
