Legendary writer Ray Bradbury has died, aged 91.

He passed away in Los Angeles on June 5 after a lengthy illness, according to the statement from HarperCollins. “In a career spanning more than seventy years, Ray Bradbury has inspired generations of readers to dream, think, and create,” the statement continued. “A prolific author of hundreds of short stories and close to fifty books, as well as numerous poems, essays, operas, plays, teleplays, and screenplays, Bradbury was one of the most celebrated writers of our time.”

Perhaps best known for Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles and Something Wicked This Way Comes, Bradbury adapted many of his own stories for the screen, as well as writing the Oscar-nominated screenplay for John Huston’s adaptation of Moby Dick.

  1. I’m deeply saddened by this. Obviously, he lived a long and successful life, and his declining health made this news come as no surprise, but he was such a fabulous, poetic writer and a great inspiration to me along with countless other writers across the decades. I was just telling a coworker that even though I love his work, there are actually several of his books I haven’t read yet, and I look forward to savoring them over the years to come.
