British actor Alan Rickman has died, aged 69.

Rickman’s many genre appearances include Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, as well as Galaxy Quest. Primarily a theatrical actor for much of his life, Rickman’s film career took off with his appearances in Die Hard and Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. He had been suffering from cancer for some time.

“Actors are agents of change,” he said of his career. “A film, a piece of theatre, a piece of music, or a book can make a difference. It can change the world.”
