Matt2Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith has signed up for a “major role” in the new Terminator trilogy, which is currently in  production from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions, according to a report at Deadline.

Smith will appear in Terminator: Genesis, directed by Alan Taylor, and his part will be more important in the second and third films. He will be joining Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as John Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, and Day Okeniyi as Danny Dyson, the son of the Skynet creator seen in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, as well as Arnold Schwarzengger as the Terminator.

Terminator: Genesis opens on 1 July 2015.
