David Warner has died, aged 80.

A statement from his family gave the news: “Over the past 18 months he approached his diagnosis with a characteristic grace and dignity.

“He will be missed hugely by us, his family and friends, and remembered as a kind-hearted, generous and compassionate man, partner and father, whose legacy of extraordinary work has touched the lives of so many over the years. We are heartbroken.”

His genre career spans Doctor Who, Star Trek and multiple films and TV series, most recently playing the “Unbound” Doctor for Big Finish Productions.

He appeared as the journalist Jennings in The Omen, as Jack the Ripper in Time After Time, the Evil Genius in Time Bandits, Ed Dillinger in TRON, as well as roles in Frankenstein, The Company of Wolves, My Best Friend is a Vampire, Star Trek V and Star Trek VI, Twin Peaks, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Return to the Lost World, Tales from the Crypt, Star Trek: The Next Generation, The New Adventures of Superman, Babylon 5, Batman: The Animated Series, Scream 2, Total Recall 2070, Doctor Who’s Cold War, Penny Dreadful, and Mary Poppins Returns, among many others.

For Big Finish, he played an alternate 3rd Doctor alongside Nicholas Courtney and Lisa Bowerman, as well as the lead in the Sapphire and Steel audio series, and was well known to fans for his appearances with Terry Molloy in Bafflegab’s series The Scarifyers.
