It’s hardly surprising that in the wake of IT‘s success, more Stephen King adaptations are heading to the big screen.
In addition to a version of Rose Madder currently in production, Craig Flores’ Bread and Circuses Entertainment are now working on an adaptation of the short story Suffer the Little Children, that first appeared in Cavalier magazine in 1972 and was then reprinted in Nightmares and Dreamscapes. Sean Carter is set to write and direct the tale about a first grade teacher who notices unusual habits among some of her pupils – and people dying mysteriously.
“Stephen King’s is one of today’s most prolific storytellers, and the concepts that he conjures immediately spark curiosity and a desire to follow him down the rabbit hole,” Flores explained, with Carter adding, “The Stephen King aesthetic has been imprinted into my psyche since I was a teenager, and Suffer the Little Children fits right into that classic King paradigm: a tragically flawed lead character put into a shockingly unimaginable scenario. It’s a tiny peek into a mythology that I can’t wait to expand into a full-length movie.”
The story was also adapted in 2015 as one of King’s “dollar babies” (movies he licenses to student filmmakers) by Bernardo Villela.
Wow, this will be an interesting movie, considering the ending of the story.
