The proposed spin-off series from Marvel’s The Avengers (Avengers Assemble in the UK) has been given a series order by ABC, with The Avengers director Joss Whedon as the series’ Executive Producer. The series will be Whedon’s return to TV after the failure of Dollhouse on Fox in 2010.
Clark Gregg will lead the series, reprising his role of Agent Phil Coulson from the Marvel series of superhero films. He will lead a select group of specialists—known as S.H.I.E.L.D.—to investigate strange and extraordinary events worldwide.
According to the press release, the remainder of the team are: Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage; Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist; Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), a brilliant engineer; and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).
A sneak preview of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs during the season finale of Once Upon A Time on ABC this Sunday 12 May. The full series will debut this coming fall.
It had better be good, or else! Nuff said.
