Terrance Dicks – Doctor Who writer, script editor, noveliser, and much more – has died aged 84.

BBC Books’ Steve Cole confirmed the news on Twitter.

Dicks worked on Doctor Who as script editor from 1968 to 1974, and contributed numerous serials including The War Games, co-written with Malcolm Hulke that introduced the Time Lords; Robot, for the Fourth Doctor; State of Decay in Baker’s last season; and The Five Doctors, the 20th anniversary celebration. He was at the forefront of the Target novelisations, and penned one of the first New Adventures. He also produced the Classic Serials, and with Barry Letts, created Moonbase 3.

On a personal note, in 1976, he was my very first interview when I was aged just 12, and he was a stalwart supporter of DreamWatch during my time on the magazine.

  1. R.I.P., Terrance. Thank you for all your great Doctor Who stories. Especially two of my favourites: Horror Of Fang Rock and State Of Decay.
