Herschell Gordon Lewis, the so called “godfather of gore” has died aged 87.
Known for popularising the splatter genre, Lewis produced numerous exploitation movies including The Gruesome Twosome, Two Thousand Maniacs and Blood Feast after early softcore porn movies. He retired from filmmaking in 1972 after The Gore Gore Girls but made a return 30 years later with a sequel to Blood Feast as well as The Uh-Oh Show, his own take on television game shows. He also made a few acting appearances in later life.
