Netflix’s Luke Cage seems to have found its villain, with the casting of Alfre Woodard as Minetta for the new Marvel series.
According to Deadline, Minetta is a “powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life” who may well be a version of Marvel’s Black Mariah, who first appeared in Hero for Hire #5 back in January 1973.
Luke Cage, starring Mike Colter, is scheduled to appear next year, although the character will feature in AKA Jessica Jones, out this autumn. Woodard was seen in the opening episodes of season 2 of The Last Ship as politician Amy Granderson.

Um, Black Mariah was a very LARGE woman whose size and strength allowed her to fight Luke Cage hand-to-hand… and she was (I think) a gang boss, not a politician.
Hence the “based on” rather than being a direct use of… as is the case with many characters in the MCU
