Details on Daredevil, the first of Marvel’s new live action TV series, are beginning to be confirmed.
At the New York Comic Con held in mid-October, the first photos of Charlie Cox as both lawyer Matt Murdock and superhero Daredevil were released, showing the series’ indebtedness to the Frank Miller and John Romita jr. run on the title.
“We’re meeting a man who believes in law and justice, and at night he is taking law into his own hands. And all the time in-between is spent battling with that concept,” Cox explained, with showrunner Steven S. DeKnight comparing the character with Marvel’s vigilante, the Punisher. “What I love about this show is the moral grey area that’s inherent to Daredevil. He’s one day away from becoming Frank Castle instead of Matt Murdock.”
Casting was also confirmed: Deborah Ann Woll will play Karen Page, with Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, alias The Kingpin. Elden Henson will be Murdock’s legal partner Foggy Nelson. Rosario Dawson will play Claire Temple, a “nurse who works at night”, according to Jeph Loeb, leading to speculation that she may actually become the Marvel character Night Nurse. Ayelet Zurer will play art gallery owner Vanessa Marianna; Bob Gunton as Leland Owlsley (aka the Owl), Tobey Leonard Moore will be Fisk’s assistant Wesley, and Vondie Curtis Hall will play journalist Ben Urich.
Daredevil is set to begin on Netflix in May 2015.
