Who series 7The shortlist for the National Television Awards, which was published on January 8th, reveals that Doctor Who and its stars will be battling Steven Moffat’s other show, Sherlock, as well as fellow Saturday night hero Merlin this year.

In the drama section, the three shows face off against each other and Downton Abbey (which won last year). Matt Smith, Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin Morgan are all nominated for Best Drama Performance: Male, alongside Daniel Mays for his role as Ronnie Biggs in Mrs Biggs.

Karen Gillan is in contention alongside former Eighth Doctor companion Sheridan Smith (for her role as Mrs Biggs), The Doctor’s Wife guest star Suranne Jones (for the Scott part of Scott & Bailey) and Miranda Hart (for generally falling over… sorry, for Call the Midwife).

Votes can be cast here and voting closes on 23rd January at midday. The show is aired live at 7.30 that evening.

  1. I must admit I would be seriously upset if Colin did not get an award for Merlin this year. He went empty handed last year and despite all the reservations we fans have about season 5, there can be no doubt that the acting was brilliant. Please vote for Colin!
