Star Stephen Mangan has announced that Douglas Adams’ holistic detective Dirk Gently has solved his last case on BBC Four.

“It gives me no pleasure whatsoever to report that the BBC have decided not to make any more Dirk Gently,” he tweeted earlier today.

The BBC have made four episodes of the show – a pilot that aired in December 2010, and three episodes that were broadcast earlier this year. Mangan starred as Dirk, alongside Helen Baxendale and Darren Boyd. The concept was created by Misfits’ Howard Overman from the two (and a half) books by Douglas Adams.
