Twenty years after the great Beauty and the Beast romance enchanted audiences in the fantasy series with Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton, ABC are working on a fresh life-action version of the story – although this time, it’s likely to be closer to its fairy tale roots.

Human Target and Jericho writer-producer Jonathan E. Steinberg is working on an “epic re-imagining” of the tale, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which will hopefully join its dual-universe fairy tale series Once Upon A Time, which starts airing on October 23.
