The vampires endure the private school admissions interview process.

We’re halfway through the season and What We Do in the Shadows hits its stride big time. It’s helped that all eyes are on the main plot, which pulls in all characters, reaffirming what we already knew – the show works best as an ensemble.

Teen Colin is proving to be a handful, violently disrupting the lives of the vampires in the house. He needs discipline in the form of education, where should he go? While there are many public schools in the neighbourhood, Colin’s unique skills might be better suited to a private establishment. Neighbour Sean is able to get them an interview with the principal of his alma mater, but will the vamps be able to convince him to let Colin in?

The hilarity comes from the vampires’ ability to pause time and reset the scene. If something doesn’t go well, the setup is frozen, rejigged and recommenced. In this way, Colin goes through an endless combination of parents and back stories. Each attempt is more outlandish than the previous.

Verdict: Hilarious. Best episode of the show this year. 9/10
