Nandor finds out that he’s no longer the leader of a country and Nadja has to teach her new vampire prodigy how to survive as a bloodsucker.
After last week’s star-studded instalment it’s back to business as usual for our Manhattan vamps, but it’s no less enjoying. Nandor is heartbroken when he learns that his homeland no longer exists as a country (it was consumed by neighbouring states in the 15th Century) and decides to become an American citizen by taking the interview/test and so follows a hilarious series of misinterpretations of the Constitution – spoiler: he doesn’t pass!
The more interesting thread follows Nadja (the excellent Natasis Demetriou) showing Jenna the ropes of how to be a vampire, from turning into a bat (in this case a scrawny hybrid creature) to feasting on humans and discovering her secret power – all vampires have one. Beanie Feldstein is great as the awkward youth, discovering that just because she’s undead she’s not suddenly cool, and is just as awkward at parties. It’s a fun and appropriate super power that she has and I look forward to seeing how it’s used going forwards.
Verdict: A more straightforward (though no less funny) episode that we’ve been used to, this comedy gem continues to nourish us with witty observational comedy and some impressive horror movie effects. 8/10
