The vampires face-off against their lycanthropic enemies and Colin Robinson finds love and enmity with a new co-worker.
We’re only three weeks in and because the characters in this TV spin-off of the mockumentary are already so well established, we can get straight down to the action. Unencumbered by too many threads, there’s two plots, both of which are as fun as each other in this instalment directed by movie co-writer/ co-director Jemaine Clement.
In the A-plot, the vampires capture a werewolf who has been desecrating their garden, events escalate, and the delicate peace that has existed between them as a treaty is soon in the balance. They agree to settle the dispute as a trial by combat and unfortunately the werewolf is much bigger than Lazlo. I won’t spoil the resolution, but it’s a laugh out loud moment and as with all the special effects in the show, it’s a mighty impressive beast.
The B-plot catches up with energy vampire Colin Robinson meeting a new co-worker in the office who is draining his colleagues. She’s Evie (E V – emotion vampire) and he realises that he must take her on or risk losing his hold on the office. Again, a lovely resolution, and don’t we all know people like this!
Verdict: This show continues to sparkle with wit and big ideas, establishing itself away from the parent movie and proving to be one of the funniest half-hours on TV at present. 9/10
