In a change of pace from the recent ‘hide from the killer’ instalments of this anthology series, we instead get a very familiar story that while well made doesn’t really tell us anything that we didn’t already knew. Uly Schlesinger is fine as spoilt rich kid Noah, and he kicks back immediately when he’s roughly treated by the staff in the Gothic hospital where he’s being held. This is someone who has clearly always got what he wanted and he’s suspicious of the sinister Dr Lucie (Kate Hennings Grant) – and with great reason – as well as zombie-like orderlies and fellow patients been dragged away in the night.
By the time we find out what’s going on – a combination of Faustian pact and Rosemary’s Baby – we really don’t care any more about the victim, and instead have more sympathy for his boyfriend Isaac (Luka Kain), the only one who is truly fighting his corner. But the ‘cured’ Noah rejects him, and Isaac is frankly better off without him.
Verdict: The message here seems to be that wealth comes at a price, and that sometimes it’s a very heavy price. It also makes you an unlikable bigot in this scenario, but hey, you’ve got money, so whatever! No comeuppance, no moral… nothing new to see here. 5/10
